What is the timing etc. It could be a fuel injector leaking if they are original. I am really just guessing. Tell us more.

The car didnt turnover at all? Did it make any sound? Need a better description to be more accurate. If it didnt even try to start I would say starter, but the bogging thing leads me to need some more info.

no i finally got it to turn over after 3 times...........it's not the starter, i just replaced that..........i guess we're gonna put a new fuel pump in on saturday, and take it from there :thud:

If it wouldnt even turn over its not the fuel pump. Try the upper selonoid, a fuel pump wont fix a problem where it wont turn over. Good Luck

like you had to turn the key 3 times before the engine would turn over. do your head lights look normal when you turn them on? are they bright? could your battery be bad from the car sitting, I think you said that the car didn't run for a few mo. or weeks. If your battery is not putting out 12volts min werd thing can pop up & not work correctly. just my .02

it's hard to explain whats going on even kenny is having trouble cause it's only doing it when i drive it........it bogs down a lot, feels like it's gonna stall, and when i give it gas it doesnt respond.....and shifting is bad too it looks like i just learned how to drive stick, but it comes and goes..........most of the time it drives fine........but yesterday was the first day that it wouldnt start, the battery is new and starter........brand new alternator........i expect the usual things to go around 120000miles, so we're replacing the fuel filter first, and then the fuel pump, cause kenny already has one for me.

Definetely need more info. Check engine light on? Have you hook up a scanner yet?How many miles? Have you tried a fuel filter yet? I wouldn't run right out just yet and replace the fuel pump. Unless you can't hear it turn and build pressure when you cycle the key with out actually cranking the motor.
Sounds just like the computer problem I had once with an 88 gt. Then one day it just died while driving it. Put new computer in and vrooooomm, ran better than ever.

Figure out what's 'going away'. Put a fuel pressure gauge on it, and monitor fuel pressure on initial key on/cycle. Ck bleed down. Ck for blown fuel pressure regulator diaphragm.
Hook up a scanner. PUll codes, (if there are any). Basically give it a good checkover.
Now I don't know what vehicle you're referring to, so I can't give any more 'advice', other then that.
If it's newer than 98 or so, and you have access to a good scan tool, there's a plethora of good/valuable information you can watch LIVE with that. (again, depending on tool ).

In either case, good luck.

definately check the fuel pressure...and be sure that the vac line on the regulator isn't leaking

If the car won't turn over the first place i would start is the ground for the battery. If it's turning over and not starting then there are many different things it can be. Plugged cats are the first thing to come to mind when people say that the car has no power when they floor it. But like the other guys posted, it can be many of those things too.

The fuel pump wont make the car not turn over, it will still crank and crank without starting. Like the others said, for the no cranking problem, could be a bad ground, bad upper selonoid, bad connection at the starter, bad starter, just because its new doesnt make it good. As for the losing power plugged cats do always come to mind, but we have had 2 Fords in our shop lately that have had the same issue, and both were O2 sensor, and they both switched good, and looked good through the computer, and never set a code. Not saying jump at the O2, just check out evervything first, unless you are ugrading the fuel pump, you might not need it. Like they said make sure you know what you are lacking when the problem occurs. Good Luck :thumbs_up

fuel pump comes on too...........and it started right up today,

Okay it started right up though. Now do it again and cycle the key a couple times. Do you hear it every time? Fuel pumps can be goofy (edit), sometimes they can work and sometimes not. I had an Audi once that took almost a year to actually die. One day every couple weeks it wouldn't start...wait......wait..........wait.............. then it would start. The point is electric pumps give you warning most of the time. Check it again and make sure every time you hear it. Then if you do hear it and the car doesn't start, you can take the fuel pump out of the equation and move on to the next possible culprit.
On another note you do have alot of miles. It wouldn't hurt to throw on a new TP sensor. They are relatively inexpensive.
Does anyone around you own a mustang? You could swap out your EEC with theirs and see if the problem goes away. That way you will know before you buy a new one. The same would go for the IAC. Do the same thing swap in theirs. If the IAC isn't working properly the car can do some strang things.
