i am almost certain it is not your amplifiers. If you have very distorted crappy sound with little volume then its your amps, but if you are not getting any sound at all its gotta be your head unit. Does your head unit seem to work fine? Have u tried playing cds and the radio?

wow, that was a fast response. thank you. yeah, when i plug in my factory head unit i have really crappy distorted and very little volume control. so i guess it is my factory amp. how do you know this? have you had this problem before? thanks nate

oh yeah, i know my head unit (sony) works well, besides it being a SONY. i ran a speaker right from the head unit harness. got sound, good sound!

then it must be your amps. I had a mach460 in my SHO and someone stole my cd changer. They cut the wiring harness instead of unplugging it and the wires got rusty and all corroded and started crossing, and I lost all sound that way, just from those wires crossing. Try going to a local stereo shop and having them test your amps before you start buying new equipment

actually, i was thinking this over and it might not be your amps. it might actually be your head unit. if your amps dont turn on it might be caused because your head unit is not functioning correctly, or like i said before, it could be the amps themselves. I had a problem on my car where amps would not kick on sometimes and my sound was all distorted and crappy. They replaced my head unit and it worked fine. Also i have head a lot of stories about the 460 head units having problems all the time. I mean, even the brand new one they put in still has malfunctions sometimes.
If you are trying to put an aftermarket cd deck into your car, the factory amps are not going to function. In order to get an aftermarket deck to make those amps work, you would essentially need to do a lot of rewiring and would be better off just getting a better amp because those stock 460 amps are little baby amps.
btw, what year is your car?

did the 95's have the same setup as the 99-04's? Is there still 2 amps in the trunk?

mach, i think they are still the same. i have a 2 channel clarion amp that i am going to run speakers to. then i have huge pioneer amp for my subs w/a bass capicitor (sp)? i wasnt using my factory head unit. i have the sony active black panel. however it is a turd. i will never ever give Sony any of my money again. i do know that my sound works on my head unit, cuz i just directly ran a speaker to the wires and it worked. so i guess it is my amp. when plug in my stock one the sound is really crappy. i dont know. i sort of gave up on the whole deal. im taking time away before i get upset w/ it. i. have other things to worry bout. i just drive the car to work. thats it right now.

With the SONY deck in you have too much signal going into your factory amp, you need a convertor to adjust your high level signal to a lower level before going into your factory amp, also... you most likely have some wires crossed. dont trust the colors of the wirings harness... its a pain, but test the speaker connections one at a time going into the amp. Interfacing with the MACH 460 is one of the biggest pains of car audio. I recommend running all new speaker wires if you take that system out.
