Comp cams says a computer upgrade is recommended, but is it required to idle or run correctly. Anybody have any experience with this cam on a non-pi head?

What is the lift and duration of these cams? If it's mild cams, you can get away with no tune/chip. I have VT stage one NA cams which have a .540intake and .550exhaust lift, i forgot the duration, but i didn't need nothing, like a tune, the car idles like a champ, but has died on me on the first start up of the day. I already have the car dyno'd tuned, but that was before i even considered cams. If these Comps 274's anything like the Comp 270's, then yes, you'll need a chip/flasher to make the car hold an idle and run properly or it may buck on you. Also, I'm not sure on the npi heads, but on the pi heads, any lift over .550, you'll need aftermarket valve springs (Comp Cams beehive springs).

The lift on the cams are.500- I can't go much more than that on a non-pi head due to clearance issues. The duration is 274 int. & 278 exh. I wouldn't mind a little hard start in the morning (unless i'm late for work) as long as it will continue to idle after that.

Put them in and see how the car drives and idles, you my have to just give it a little pop rev here and there so the car won't die. If it's bad, then get the car dynotuned, or get a mail order chip/flasher.
