I'm thinking about buying the head unit that Boost-It is selling. A while back I was looking into buying a head unit for my car and I remember them saying that installing it is a rather involved process. I have a '95 GT w/ the Mach 460 sound system. They said that you have to bypass the factory amps when you install the new head unit. Does anyone know how much work or how hard it is to do that?

The previous owner of my car had an aftermarket head unit in it but he took it out. I would think this would make the install easier. I do not know the quality of work that he did so I may have to replace all the wiring.

Any info is appreciated.

I'm guessing Crutchfield would be a good place to see what's required to bypass/make it work with the amps.

Put a new system in the exploder, crutchfield had all the harnesses/mounts with multiple options to deal with the amp.

Or, just do it yourself and rewire everything on your own.

You don't have to bypass the amps. My SHO has the JBL system. Witht he wiring harnes adapter, just wire RCA leads to the ends of teh speaker wire part of the adapter, and plug them into the RCA outputs on the CD player. this is easiest if you get a CDplayer with front and rear RCA outputs, which that alpine probably has. If you want, I can send you a diagram. Email me at sportrods@aol.com

agreed, you do not need to bypass anything. you do need the mach 460 harness. you can get them at best buy for like 20 bux. however, expect your amps to take a crap on you sometime. not because your putting in a new deck, just cuz the factory amps dont last. i just have to rewire my whole car. it was not fun, but i had to do it. i was sick of singing to myself while driving.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I'm glad to hear that I don't have to bypass anything. I'm still not 100% sure if I'm going to buy the cd player or not. I guess at this point I'm 50/50. Sportrods, if I do buy the cd player I will deffinately e-mail you for the diagram.

Hell, for that matter buy the pizza and I may come down and throw it in... Always fun to get out of the house and hang with some fellow enthusiasts.
