I am trying to gather a list of components required to swap a 5.4 into my 03 gt.
I know the heads and cams are the same.

So here is what I know I need to purchase.

5.4 block
5.4 intake manifold complete with injectors and full rail.

But what I don't know is will I need to change the flywheel?
Some electrical components will need to be lenghtened/shortened
What about accessory brackets? and locations?

And I know it's going to need to be tuned.

Also what year blocks should I look for? I was thinking 99 and up.

2v or 4v??

If its a 4v you have a few different intake choices, 2v your kind of limited right now...

Are you looking to buy a complete motor or are you going to have one assembled?

From your orig. post I was guessing you mean a 2v - easiest way to do the intake would be to just get spacers from livernois (others make them too) and you can still use your stock intake.

2V I looked into a 4V navi upgrade but everything is three times more for the 4v stuff.

I have the room for the 5.4 intake under my hood.

Which one flows better?

Why not just go to a 4V 281??? It will make more power than a 2V 5.4...

The truck intake wont get you much power in the rpms I think you would be better off using the mustang intake with the spacers.

Its always cool to be different too though....but I would do the 5.4 only with either good head cam work/or a healthy shot of the juice.

The 5.42v would probably be a FUN street car with the extra low end power that he will have!

I would shoot a 150 NX shot at it for the track and see what happens. 5.42v complete motors can be had pretty cheap - basically just swap intakes and drop it in - some exhaust work may need to be done because of the raised height on the 5.4, but I can't see that being an issue...

I can't find a resonably priced 4 valve, plus the swap is much more involved from what I have read. I also think the future benefits of the 5.4 are higher than the 4.6.

I think it is a great winter project! If you need help setting up the heads let me know - maybe I could swing by for a day and give ya a hand.

You can get complete motors accessories and all for around $1000 on ebay.

I would leave everthing stock this coming year a probably look at ported heads, cams, and juice next winter.

I talked to Marv he is going to "massage" the exhaust to fit and tune it.

The 4.6 4v swap is amazingly straight forward...the 5.4 4v is much more involved though....

The tune would be much more of an issue if you were switching to a 4v (if you wanted it done locally) also. Going to a 5.4 2v the tune is pretty straight forward.

From wht I understand you can run the 4.6 tune but it is going to be either 19% rich/lean depending on who's talking.

The reason I am asking all this stuf is because you read one thing on one site and another thing on another site its a little confusing....I just want to make sure I do this right the first time.....

If you are comparing yourself to a PRO STOCK racer like DCON I definetly NEED spots!!!

That guy seriously needs some help with all of his spot whining - talk about freakin annoying!

No, no, no, not comparing.....just using as an example. If a pro stock racer can ask for spots than I can too! :thumbs_up

I guess I figured since Eric has done the 4V swap... He'd perhaps agree...

Look up Dan Simons on The Corral, his name is TurboX2 or something like that. He did a 5.4 swap and had to fabricate a spacer and such, he has a whole writeup on this swap someplace... He lives up in the Twin Cities...

I didn't take it as you peeing in my wheels.

I still plan on doing the 5.4 swap...it's different. And what everyone has said is that it would be a fun, torquy street car, which is what I want.

What's the weight difference between these two motors, just wondering how much more weight this places over the front wheel? When going from a 302 to a 351 it's like 100 Lbs...
I'm guessing it's not that much between a 4.6 and a 5.4

I have heard anywhere form 22-55 pounds.

Tubular k-member, a-arms and coil-overs would negate that weight gain easily! :D

I do agree with you Greg, 4.6 4v would make more power, more easily.

What spacer did he have to fab? Intake spacers are made by a number of companies now. There are a few who have done the 5.4 2v swap - it really shouldn't be a big deal to do...

I actually like the way the 5.4 intake looks....plus I don't think is plastic so I would proably use the stock one.

I agree that the 4.6 4v will make more power easier but I also think that with some "enhancments" the 5.4 will make a boat load of power n/a.

Well, I would have to go back to some old issues of MMFF, there was actually a feature on Dan and his car and this intake "adapter" he fabricated for the swap. I guess he was one of the first to do it? There should be a writeup somewhere. I believe this was around last X-Mas...
