I need to know some things...I have an 89 5.0.
I am looking to buy a stocker replacement from carquest. They were asking these questions:
1. Is it a ford or TRW rack?
2. Does it have sport suspension? <--Im assuming yes being an LX 5.0.
3. Is it 2 1/4 lock to lock, or 2 1/2 lock to lock?
If you know the answers to these please let me know.
Thanx guys!

Ford rack, sport suspension. As for the lock to lock, if you want tighter steering go with the 2 1/4. That's what I bought for my GT last year and I'm happy with it.

I run wide wheels up front and they rub at lock out. Should I stick with 2 1/2 or
2 1/4 becuase of this?

gt's (maybe all v8's) had the quicker ratio of the two

Mine rub too. I just try to be more careful when I am turning at full lock like in a parking lot.

Gotcha thanx!
Kurt- if it helps you, I cut off my jacking plates off my control arms and this decreased on the rubbing.

Cool, I'll have to look at that. Thanks Mikey. I have to pull it apart anyways because I have some swaybar bushings that are well, nonexistant. The driver's side is worn completely through so as soon as I can get a set I'll be tearing into it.

For a FYI, some racks, (usually the stock ones), were a one piece design. Don't know what year ford changed it, (you'd think, seeing these all the time , I'd pay attention, but I don't).
In either case, if it does matter, some replacement racks still have the one piece design.
The later models, (and alot of aftermarket ones), have the steel tube in the center which gives you at least 1/2" more clearance between the rack and your oil pan.
(at least this is what I"ve run into).
