View Full Version : V6 Modding
I'm driving a stock 2000 manual V6. The only thing I've even touched on it is a tune on the computer. I'm looking for a couple of cheap mods because this is still a street car and I'm not looking at super or turbo any time soon. I was going to add a cold air intake ASAP and I was looking into some pulley systems, but I really am not sure where to start. If anyone has any help with the pulleys and what kind of changes I can expect or any other good mods, I'd appreciate your help. I was also considering eventually changing to a dual exhaust as well, but I'm really going slow and cheap.

welcome dude. u hit the nail on the head as far as easy and relatively cheap mods go. an intake will definately wake your motor up and so will pulleys. as for who to go with... thats something that is better done by researching various companies. you dont wanna get stuck in garage dyno syndrome. by that i mean peeps telling you they made mad power by using this and that product. the way i see it, what worked for one mite not work the same for someone else. there are plenty of companies out there will give you the power you want, it really all comes down to what you feel is teh best bang for the buck. this sint exactly what you had wanted but i feel you on the parts list. i want so much for my ride but i am taking my time and seeing just what available and then reading up on them and see what will fit my needs best.
A cold air will help a little.
Under drive pulley is good for about 7 rwhp.
Do you have an auto or 5 spd?
5 spd
What are you using for the tune?

rear end gears would help a lot. 4.10's unless you do a lot of hwy driving.

and it dont' sound that bad really... a little raspy
and as for the pullies, not only will it add a little bit of power, it willl help your 6 rev faster too....
Someone told me something about 'tornado' drilling the cold air intake to make sure the air doesn't just rush in but works in a vortex. I haven't heard of this before, so what's up with that and does it actually help?

NO! There was another post on here recently about that. Some guy at Autozone told him that or some other cheap autoparts store. Don't believe it. I, and im sure just like everyone else on here who has a CAI, either has a basic CAI off ebay or something purchased our of Jegs or Summit, and none of them have that drilling you're talkin about.

Not a chance of it working.
By the time the air gets into the upper intake runners it is flowing smoothly no matter what is trying to spin it.
Yeah, that was me on the other post, too. I just hadn't recieved an answer here, so that's why there was the other. I was very skeptical of the guy considering I had looked at so much stuff on CAI's and never once had I seen anything about what he was talking about. I honestly don't think he knew what he was saying himself. :burnout:
