Well, i now have 68k on my daily driver, `94 Chevy Corsica with the 3.1 V6. It always ran cool, maybe a quarter of the way on the meter. I believe the cause is a weak thermostat that i just never bothered changing when i did a coolant flush last summer along with replacing the hoses. For a about a week, the car hasn't drove any differently, but the temp gauge now climbs passed midway. I was thinking the thermostat, so i popped the hood today(engine running) and noticed the electric fan doesn't kick on. I may need a new fan, but i have not even check the fuses yet. I have a Hayne service manual and one way to test the fan motor is "by running a Fused Jumper Wires directly from the battery to the connector on the fan motor." I have jumper cables, but never heard of Fused Jumper Wires? Are they expensive, would Pep Boys have them?

All that means is to make sure you run a jumper wire with an in-line fuse. That's easy to do, if there is a power distribution box under the hood, tap off of one of the 30 amp circuits, just make sure you are on the fused side and not the hot side. Ground one terminal of the fan motor, power up the other. If it's a 2-speed fan, make sure you verify which terminal is the "common" terminal.
Jumper cables are a bit large for what you are trying to do... ;)
Diagnosing that should be easy dude. Having a VOM (volt-ohm meter) would make short work of the process.

Thanx Greg, unfortunately, i don't have a working ohm meter. I'm trying to get a hold of my friend that has one, but no word.
Can you define "jumper wire?" i'm not the best electrician when i comes down to it.

Drop the "jumper" and visualize a 14 guage wire.
All this means is an alternative power source- something other than the source provided by the wiring harness. You are just tying to verify if the fan motor will function properly when powered up...

does the fan kick on with the a/c if you have it? gm uses some decent relays, but that would be a great thing to test in this case
you can use jumper cables if you want...I test fans with one of those portable jumper packs, of if they're pulled at the jy I give them a spin on the truck battery

I didn't think about turning on the A/C, i'll see what happens, thanx Matt.
