Has anyone ever ripped/tore their torque boxes? I currently have aftermarket upper and lower control arms with spherical bearings on the upper axle side. i use 15" Nitto's currently. i only have maybe 15 launches on them so far, and yes i do have after market axles(31's). Will they eventually go? I wanted them to get welded, but the shop i brought to said something that it wouldn't do any good. I don't make a ton of power, but i'm getting hard launches that cut low 1.8 short times, should be in the high 1.7's. What about Battle Boxes, how does those work/install?

have them welded for piece of mind...and yes they eventually will go ;)

battle boxes are pre-cut sheetmetal reinforcements...incredibly overpriced! you could have someone local copy the design for next to nothing, then have them welded in

I just wish i knew how to weld, then i'd take care of it myself, plus if i bring it anywhere i wanna make sure they don't melt my rear seats. Last night i was installing a DS loop and when i removed the carpet on the driver side, there was a charred area on the floor pan that shinged the padding under the carpat the size of my hand from getting my subframes welded in.
Is there anyone out there that's handy with a welder that want's to make a few bucks to do my torque boxes?

If you have the boxes welded you HAVE to pull out the interior (seats, and carpet) if you don't want to have a fire. Completely welding the seams on the torque boxes is the only way to not destroy them. I have seen 12 second cars tear them to shreads with a sticky tire and some stiff bushings. I personally recomend UPRs upper reinforcement kit. completely welded seams, and have a steel plate welded to the lowers to reinforce them from buckeling. Don't have some hack weld it up either it is not the easiest thing to do some of the metal is extremly thin and burns easy. I would do it for you if you waited till the fall, but I am far to buzy in the summer to do anything on the side. You would need the rearend removed, interior removed, and about a solid day of fabbing and welding to do it right.......

BBATCO gave me some help & good pointers on fixing my boxes. they were pulled away from the floor board by over a 1/4" in some spots. & the bolt holes were sloted in some spots on the uppers. all in all I almost put in ladder bars because they were so bad.... I did fix them with the repair kits that you can buy & welded up every seam that had to do with the torque boxes inside & outside of the car. wild rides makes a brand new upper kit that will replace everything if you screw up the floor pan.
You should just try a little under car welding, nothing like getting weld splatter melted into your skin or down your shirt. the best is when you take a pc of splater down the ear hole. it sounds like your in a big frying pan. :thumbs_up

I'm going to have mine welded. All you really need is a solid weld around the boxes. Factory are only tac welded. What were they thinking!!!

You didn't drill into floorboard did you?
There is a guy in round lake who is a welder who will probably do it

Too late, it's alreay bolted in  I wish i knew man, because now i have a piece a metal in my eye from drilling the holes. I was wearing safety glasses and it still found a way in my eye  I thought i got it out, but sometimes i can still feel it, i may have to see a doctor today.
Let me know on those trq boxes being welded though.

go see a doc very soon, I had a small pc of steel in my eye from work & it started to rust on my eyeball. they had to strap my head to this harness & GRIND THE RUST OFF MY EYE BALL. you do not want that to happen! let me tell you. I would go today, I waited a day before I went in & it was to late....
I also had to wear a eye patch for a few days, not cool mate.

Ok, just got back for the Dr. Everything is all good. It turns out i did get the metal out and what i'm feeling now is a small abrasion/scratch that the metal caused. I was given some drops to take for the next 3 days to prevent infections, what a relief.

I can weld 'em up for you. I live in McHenry. Just got done rebuilding the back half of my 91. I have been welding for the better part of 15 years. You would need to pull the bottom part of the seat and the factory stick on sound deadener. It's not hard to do,just time consuming. I work pretty cheap too!

Alright! That would be cool, but the weather is getting chilly so i would love to get over by you before the end of November. How much?

I went through this not too long ago. Nightmare. To everyone reading: reinforce them BEFORE they get screwed up!

Here's a few pics of one of my tq box mods:

I got longer bolts that would stick all the way out of the frame, then used machine tubing and welded it in against the frame on the inside:

http://www.mustangcentral.net/rr/tqbox/tqbox2.jpg

Then I cut a plate that the tube goes through that will be welded to the frame and the tube. This gives it a lot more strength and rigidity than just being bolted to the one side of the frame...

http://www.mustangcentral.net/rr/tqbox/tqbox3.jpg

And here is the tube welded up to the plate and the plate welded to the frame with the bolt installed:
