Default Computer guys, need help

My toshiba satellite laptop took a **** on me. It seems the registry is corrupted. I tried to go back and restore the computer to the factory condition, because I failed to burn the recovery disks prior to this happening (dumbass move). Anyway, the installation was going fine but it errored out and now, because windows is only partially loaded, I cant do anything with it.

So, aside from buying a new HDD and having to spend a couple hundos paying for windows again, what are my options?

Can I use somoene elses recovery disks? or are they specific to each computer? I would download linux, but i'm not really a fan of it. I tried it on my Desktop PC and i dont like learning new interfaces, so i went back to windows. Any help would be great!

you should be able to use another toshiba satellite recovery disk set to get it working. how old is it? what operating system does it have? you might be able to use another computer to "slave" the loading operation so you can try the recovery again.

Its vista 32, computer is a toshiba satellite L305D

I found a guy on a local board here who's willing to let me use his SATA hard drive enclosure so i can plug it up to my desktop PC and get everything off that hard drive. i'll reformat it then load a version of windows 7 that one of my coworkers has.

If you were doing a recovery install you might be screwed. If it was a fresh install you should be able to download a free version of Acronis for the brand of hard drive you have and possibly format the drive to get past your issue. Not sure but you might be able to use linux to do the same thing. Or as a slave drive on another system format it. If your stuck in the continuous loop on setup the slave option is probably your best option.

Uh oh, sounds like you're going to be outside of the License Agreement...
Windows 7 is a better plan anyway, Vista was a turd. Just watch for 32 or 64 bit, could have some issues...

How did the Reg get corrupted to start with?
