I picked up a nice 8.8 disc to disc for my '97. I'm not going to go with 4:10's since I've got a 5spd, but this car needs all it can get. Has anyone tried 3:90's on their car? I thought it would make a nice compromise of performance and good highway manners.

I have an auto transmission so I don't know how much value this has to it but I know that if I were to do mine all over again, I would go with the 4.10's.

not sure how they are with a v6...but 4.10s are not that bad on the hwy

it will only be about 150rpm between the 2

The RPM difference between 4:10's and 3.90's is minimal. You are looking about 200 rpms across the board. Performance wise you will be better off with the 4:10's. Just make sure you look at what you are working with so you stay in your power band.

It sounds like the vote is for 4:10's. This car will see considerable highway driving though which is why I was steering away from them, but if it's only a 200rpm or so, then it won't be that bad. Also, the car will have the exhaust done, but it shouldnt be as loud as a 5.0 hatch with long tubes and dumps so the extra rpms hopefully won't make my ears bleed lol.

Even with a power adder coming eventually, I doubt I'll have the mph to run out of gear at the track. I've just always thought that T-5's that spend time on the highway were supposed to stay away from 4:10's.

it isnt so much the trans as it is the power band of the car

No, most people stay away due to the gears making first gear very quick/short.
